I was shocked when I received my February issue
and opened page six, to see there a pornographic picture in a magazine
that obviously is not pornographic. I was even more upset because my two-year-old
daughter was with me at the moment. I thought Brazzil had a higher
standard and didn't need this kind of picture to increase circulation...
Obviously I was wrong and I will not even consider renewing my subscription.
The photo is offensive, in bad taste, and totally inappropriate for this
magazine. Just a little note to say Nossa! You guys
really crossed the line in your Rapidinhas section this month of
February. Showing nude calendar girls is one thing, but showing a girl
with a bottle half way up her buceta is really pushing it. Even
my liberal-minded Brazilian friends were offended. I like to show your
magazine to people at my work, but I won't be bringing in this issue. The page-six picture on Brazzil's February
issue is disgusting. I am sorry and embarrassed that I gave friends a subscription
of the magazine. The type of image portrayed in that edition is exactly
the image that Americans have of Brazil, specially of the women, cheap,
dirty, and easy. There are a lot of other images worth showing to the world.
Unfortunately it's a disappointment having to
go through this "show of tchan" in order to check important
news on your WEB page. If you publish this kind of material just to call
attention, I feel ashamed and cannot give your address or have a link from
my sites to yours despite all the valuable informative material that you
have. Sorry. Congratulations for the rest of the material.
I noticed the February issue is listed as my last
one, so I'm sending in my $3 for another year's subscription. Keep up the
fine job and I always appreciate the tasteful photos you run in the Rapidinhas
section!
Kathleen de Azevedo takes a little trip by bus
to Maceió ("Back Home", Brazzil, January '97) and
thinks the whole world has to be like the US. Maceió is a lot more
than a brown haze, old typewriters, empty hotels. Usually, tourists don't
go to Maceió to stay in hotel balconies. They are out enjoying all
that the waters' paradise has to offer. Maceió has colonial buildings,
modern buildings and mansions, beautiful popular houses, simple houses
and favelas too. I go there every year and stay two or three months
to refill my soul and mind with love, sweetness, simplicity and the reality
of life. Live to work, work, work, surrounded by cold new machines, go
to the beach to see tens of little shops all the same? How boring! I don't
blend here, I blend there.
Are you running out of contributions from Brazilian
writers? We really think you should rely on lighter material than João
Antônio's "Joãozinho da Babilônia" short story
(Brazzil, January '97). If you want variety give hard news a chance.
Real life will have a lot of that stuff. Is it why you changed the magazine's
name for? You should strive to bring the beauty of Brazil not what seems
to us to belong to the "play-macho" magazines.
You used to be the best site in the world for
Brazilian news. Now you have so many images that it takes 15 minutes just
to get to you. What a shame! I have to disable my images to go anywhere.
I will have to get a faster link since 28.8k is not good enough. I don't
think I will visit you guys anymore. It is sad.
I just finished reading the article about Ronaldinho
("Ronaldinho Superstar, Brazzil, February '97) and I confess
that I could not control my emotions. Congratulations! The article is so
touching and beautifully written that I will make some copies of it and
distribute them among my fellows who still don't subscribe to Brazzil.
Obviously I will do it only if you allow me to do so. Unfortunately TV stations here in the US show
very little about Brazilian football and Brazilian players currently playing
in Europe, like Ronaldinho. So it has been hard to be up to date on this
matter. But thanks to Brazzil as well as to Mr. Peter Castles I
could matar a sede e a fome at the same time.
I just read your article on Ronaldinho on the
Web and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ronaldinho is truly an amazing player. I
am a senior at Georgetown University and although I have never been to
Brazil I feel an incredibly strong pull towards it based on everything
I have learned. Living in Brazil is a dream that I am willing to do anything
to bring to fruition.
I just got back from São Paulo and Rio
and maybe I'll move to Ubatuba, however I have great difficulty in understanding
the B. S. over skin color in Brazil. What in hell is the hang-up here?
Most women I came across wanted a white man and were not interested in
my Negro friend. He is far more educated than I am, is a lady killer (not
like O.J.) and is one of America's wealthiest (which he did not show).
I am appalled by this behavior while my friend is still laughing at it.
Thanks to Bruce Gilman's very well written article
on Jovino and his music (Brazzil, December '96). Though I am a Brazilian
(from Santos) living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I had not heard of
him before. Now I know his music is superb and will be visiting Tower Records
soon.
Please renew my subscription for ten years. I
keep forgetting to renew on time. If you can think of any resources on
the Internet about business opportunities in Brazil or about relocating
to that country please let me know.
